Keep Laurel Springs Beautiful!

An occasional post by Councilwoman Kendra Mochel

Today’s Topic:Solid Waste Management

Many people have noticed that some trash cans are on the streets earlier each week. That doesn’t look very good as we drive up the street or stroll with our children and dogs.

Our beautiful little borough is a great place to live.  Let’s take more pride in our community and keep the town looking its best. We all need to comply with the town ordinances and encourage our neighbors to do so, too.

If you are going to be away, have a neighbor put your trash out and bring the cans in. Keep the trash up by the house to keep it off the streets.  Together we can keep the community clean and beautiful.

Below are the borough ordinances that apply to putting out trash.

224-12
A.
All residential solid waste should be collected one time per week.  All collections should be made between 7:00a.m. and 8:00pm
B.
Solid waste designated for collection must be placed at the curb or within five feet of the approved road sited prior to 7:00a.m. and no sooner than 12 hours before collection time.  Empty containers must be removed no later than 12 hours after the end of the collection day.

224-13
A.
Garbage shall be free of tin cans, bottles, paper, plastic, and every other matter except animal and vegetable refuse.B.  Receptacles shall not be filled higher than three inches below the top.  Covers shall be placed on receptacles to prevent any rubbish, garden refuse, or garbage being scattered about by wind or other elements. Damaged or leaking receptacles shall be replaced at the expense of the owners.

For 34 years, the Lions and the Whitman Stafford Committee has been presenting the free Concerts on the Green. This year we are presenting just 4 events- all free to the public.

July 21st --7:00 P.M. Cumberland County College Band.
                        No Rain Date
July 28th: 6:00 P.M. Blueberry Festival Sponsored by the Laurel Springs Recreation Commission. 7:00 P.M. Elvis Returns- Mark Reno in Concert.  Rain Date Thursday- July 29th- Rain or Shine- If it rains the Blueberry Festival will be in the Laurel Springs Recreation Building on the Ball Field Complex- Decision time in or out is 5 PM

August 11th 6:00 PM Laurel Springs Lions Peach Festival,7:00 PM  Sterling String Band. Rain Date August 12- Same procedure as the Blueberry Festival.(Last Concert of the Season)

If you would like to help us support the Concerts on the Green, please consider these options:
Place an ad in the Concert Program- Give us your Business Card and a Check for $25.00. Or
Become a Patron in the program for just $5.00- Print out your name and send a check. We appreciate and need your support to have a 35th year. Mail checks to Laurel Springs Lions Club, 127 Broadway, Laurel Springs, N.J. 08021. Deadline for both is July 7th.

Each year we support another area charity. We will again support the South Jersey Food Bank.
Bring a food donation or a cash donation to any concert and you will get 3 tickets for a drawing, at the last concert, for an American Flag flown over the Battleship New Jersey. Last year, we collected a pick up truck full of food for the South Jersey Food Bank.
